5: Mark Frölich – Till Ur Legs Fall Off video part

I don’t really know where to begin with this one, nothing about the part it really makes sense to me. Firstly, I find the fact that Mark started filming it right after he finished his ridiculously gnarly Thrasher section pretty insane. The man didn’t give himself the few weeks of well deserved rest any normal person would have opted for, he just went straight back to handling business. And that’s without even having a precise project to work on or anything. Secondly there’s the fact that he felt the desire to one -up himself,  flying down even more stairs and backside 180 nosegrinding even longer handrails whilst his sponsor list was slowly getting shorter and shorter. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a skater with such an insatiable (yet unrewarded) thirst for hammers. I wonder how he must feel about the big time pros who haven’t released a full part in the last 6 years… Then there’s the way this part came out. Mark contacted us, out of the blue, asking if we wanted his section exclusively for the website. No money involved, no sponsorship arrangements, just: “here, you can have it, but please release it when it’s dark outside, so the first viewing feels like a proper video premiere”. Weird request I’ll give you that, but how could we complain?  It got 5 or 6 times more views than certain exclusive video parts that took months and months of planning to release. You can say what you want about the total absence of frontside tricks in his part or that some of the clips look like they were filmed by his dad; he absolutely smashes it and kids love him. People won’t stop telling us we should have nominated him for European Skater Of The year even though his part came out too late to be taken into account…
