Young Belgian skater Jarne Verbruggen has many sponsors under his belt, including by Nike SB footwear, Element skateboards, RVCA, Independent Truck Co, Muckefuck wheels, Area 51 skate park and the Lockwood skateshop in Antwerp. He made his video debut in Element Europe’s 2010 release Get Busy Living, edited by Yves Marchon, in which he shared a part with Nassim Guammaz and Ross McGouran.
In 2011, he featured in Simon Grassart’s independently-released Noorder Light, which put Belgium and its skaters on the skate map, and he followed this up with a kickass video clip for RVCA in 2012. The highlight of his career so far has been his part in Element Europe’s 2013 release Hold It Down, in which he took a series of spots apart with style, speed and some unusual tricks, including a backside flip and a 180 nosegrind revert.
Jarne grew up in the city of Mechelen, where mini-ramp roll-ins led to street skating expeditions before the OG Mechelen skateboarders took him under their wings. He was soon christened ‘the Jarnimal’, a talented and versatile skateboarder, famous for both his creative skate moves and his party performances.
Jarne is a street demon through and through, whose style and flow always catches the eye. As he proved in his most recent clip for Lockwood skateshop in 2014, he is insane to watch on the board, with an awesome bag of tricks and an eye for the road less travelled – there is surely a lot more to come from this powerhouse of a rider.
