After a number of years riding as an am with Element Skateboards, and a part in the company’s full-length film from 2012 Future Nature, American Evan Smith turned pro with Element in March 2013. At a party to celebrate the occasion at Mr. Smalls Theatre in Pittsburgh, his debut pro video part The Evan Smith Experience was premiered.
Since first featuring in Florida videos like Down in Orlando and Just Meshing Around, Evan has appeared in films including DC’s Skateboarding is Forever from 2009 and Bones’ New Ground from 2013. Among his highlights in competition includes a fourth place finish at the 2013 CPH Pro. He is currently sponsored by Element, DC Shoes and Apparel, Bones Wheels, Swiss, Independent and Creative Life Support.
Evan was born in Orlando, Florida, but has been based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania since 2007. His early inspiration was uncle Mike Speranzo, who rode for Vision, Sims and Tracker until 1989, but was asked to put his career aside to help Gary Ream start a skateboard camp that is now known as Camp Woodward.
Evan has made a name for himself with his unorthodox approach in all aspects of his life – not only has he eschewed the normal migratory route to California, but he approaches classic spots with a fresh set of eyes and pulls out tricks that others would not even think of attempting. His four-minute debut pro part was a great example of his stylish skateboarding abilities and adaptability in any terrain.
