Youth of Yangon now online

This fantastic documentary about the small group of skaters in Yangon, Myanmar, is now online to watch for free. The film traces the story of the 15-20 local skaters and their plight against the city which has let their skateparks become demolished. Providing them with inadequate replacement facilities and equipment not built to withstand their seasons, the skaters feel a diaspora from their original skate parks and spaces. Although there are street spots to skate, many are either too rough or too crowded to skate. Without a fully fledged scene or real shop, access to boards, wheels and skate shoes are limited. Produced by Ali Drummond and Filmed, Edited and Directed by James Holman, “Youth of Yangon” aims to show the world that Myanmar’s skateboarders need help. They need a new skatepark and access to equipment. Nominated for Best Documentary at the International Skateboard Film Festival in Los Angeles 2013 and put into the Official Selection of Newport Beach Festival Los Angeles 2013, the documentary has gained a good audience. But now you can watch it here for free and show your support by tipping the video in the bar below the video on the vimeo link. Give them a like on their Facebook page too. Not only has Ali Drummond been focusing on supporting the fledging scene of Yangon and producing the documentary but he has also been running The Harmony Skateboards who have come back in full force (check their latest tour video “Sledging in Sarajevo” here) with a few new additions to the team. So watch the vids and get stoked with the positives things skateboarding can bring to the world. Youth of Yangon from Hot Knees Media on Vimeo.
