On August 14th nine of the best skateboarding teams from all over Europe will battle it out against each other for some serious cash. 50,000 Euro to be exact. It is free to watch too, so there's no excuse to not go and witness the shreddage.
The second annual European version of The Vans Downtown Showdown will take place in Hamburg, Germany on special customised ramps designed by: Cliché, Element, Death and Antiz . Inspired by all the weird and wonderful things from Hamburg's colourful reputation, you can be sure to see some very special obstacles to be built.
Alva and Cardiel will also be in attendance!
Here's a few words from the people in charge:
Jeremie Daclin from Cliché leaves some room for day -dreaming while describing their obstacle: “We are going to bring a piece of Lyon's Cliché office to Hamburg. I'm sure the crew will be stoked to skate it. We're not bringing the girls for the pole dance though." Element even brings some political reality to it: “When we were asked to design an obstacle related to the shipping/dock theme, our thoughts were automatically drawn to this crazy oil spill in the Florida Gulf. Dark Oily waves and a big cargo instantly sprung to mind hence we ended up with this design and named it 'Oil Spill Obstacle'. We hope the skateboarders will like it! “ states Alexandre Deron, Team Manager Element Europe.
Dan Cates of Death Skateboards has this to say: "To create 'The spot pirate' we pillaged some of our favorite skate spots from around the world and turned them into something new. We took spots from Barcelona, Valencia, Gran Canaria, Liverpool as well as St. Albans and re worked them into one obstacle that we hope will make for a fun skate... If you don't agree you can always walk the plank."
For Hugo Liard and the brand Antiz, it is a little more fantastical: "There's gonna be a mythical sea monster of gargantuan size, in the middle of Hamburg coming from great depths..."
Sounds like this could be interesting...
