Iain Borden, Professor of Architecture and Urban Culture at UCL has compiled this YouTube playlist titled Skateboarding History in 100 Videos. The playlist is Iain’s curation of 60 years of diverse skateboarding culture illustrated in 100 video clips.
Here’s Iain explaining the playlist in his own words:
“For the last few years, I have been working on a new book, Skateboarding and the City, which will come out in 2018. While writing this, I’ve realised that skateboarding history is far more diverse than many assume, and includes not only the famous riders, companies, skatespots and videos that we know and love, but also many other different kinds of riding, terrains, people, countries, attitudes, artworks and so on. So this video playlist is meant to give a taste of skateboarding’s increasingly plural and wide appeal – a kind of smorgasbord of skateboarding people, places and styles. I will also be including QR codes linking to the videos when my book comes out next year, providing more information and interpretation about why all of this helps make skateboarding – over many decades but even more so today – such a rich and varied practice.”
