Nike SB x Numbers: Eric Koston, Antonio Durao and Guy Mariano release a second capsule collection with Nike SB, inspired by ’90s schoolyard.
“We got addicted to striped polos in the early ‘90s,” says Guy Mariano. “We were influenced by a lot of hip hop of that time.” Both Mariano and Eric Koston, his partner in Numbers, recall the look was bi-coastal, whether it was their crew skating Lockwood, the SF Embarcadero crew or their friends skating New York’s Brooklyn Banks. Simply put, there was a universal aesthetic in the apparel that defined the era.
Regularly frequenting premium activewear retailers in the early ‘90s, Koston and Mariano amassed formidable collections. They both were influenced by the available brands and in turn, they influenced the aesthetic of a generation of skaters.
