The Japanese car brand intend to film the commercial in Barcelona, at a specially built skatepark located in Cubelles and pictured above. The Lexus hoverboard uses a magnetic levitation which allows it to achieve frictionless movement over permanent magnets, meaning the board can only move over the metal tracks you can see in the picture above.
The video, posted yesterday, showed the board traveling over concrete. However when El Patín headed out to the park where the commercial is being filmed they found the vehicle can only travel over those magnetic rails. Lexus have pointed out “It’s just a matter of figuring out how", but for now they will be hiding the metal tracks with thin wooden slats that look like concrete - giving the illusion that the board works anywhere.
Regarding the skatepark that has been built in Cubelles, El Patín have told us that it’s not exactly as it appears. The construction began about a month ago and is patrolled by private security 24 hours a day. The materials being used in construction do not appear strong enough to be suited to actual skateboarding - everything is made out of wood with a thin layer of concrete.
Sources involved in the construction of the skatepark told El Patín that the park has been designed by Ross McGouran, and that he’ll probably be the one featuring in the commercial. Different workers have been observed trying the hoverboard this week, but almost none of them were able to handle it.
