The small Australian imprint Izrock Pressings has a new zine out that’s likely to create some controversy in the skate world. Keegan Walker’s Hot Dudes is described by the publisher as a ‘homoerotic skate zine’. There’s nothing really out of the ordinary in the photos – tops off, checking footage, the sort of closeness you have with your friends – it’s more the description of it as homoerotic that makes you look at it that way. If you wish. But would you call these photos homoerotic, if they were shot by a female? Even if you were a dude looking at them? Maybe not. But such is photography, a self fulfilling prophecy as a medium. Call it something and that’s what you’ll see in it. While you’re at it, have a look at the other wonderful publications from Izrock. Joe Allen-Shea behind the project is a good friend and a one time Kingpin designer. Also doing important work getting some of our favourite artists like French, Stefan Marx and Marcus Oakley out there in the Australian and international art world as the curator of Monster Children gallery.
