When thinking of DIY and skateboarding, traditionally, tight transitions and slash grinds – in other words technically inferior skateboarding – spring to mind. You'd think of rough types covered in work wear and concrete, some dude from Malmö maybe… very unlikely you would think of the Toulousian master of fine art in tech and steez, #Guccit aficionado, Lucas Puig. Think again!
A couple of years back now Lucas and his friends came up with their very own DIY heaven, their tech-dog Burnside: Dalavas! However, like almost every good DIY spot Dalavas went through some rough times. Recently though, Lucas and some Cliché mates stepped in and breathed new life into the Dalavas spot with a kiss and some Cold Cash. Reason enough for us to sit down Lucas and to talk some Dalavas facts. Here we go…

Lucas, when did you build Dalavas?
Probably like four or five years ago.
Who had the initial idea to built?
At the very beginning we were Olivier Durou, Nicolas "Chico" Dansan and myself. Another friend joined us and it was on. That's how we started to build the first ledge.
What did you guys have in mind building?
We just wanted some basic stuff to have fun on!
»We need the BBQ on, 25c beer and water in the cooler and the vx ready to film!«
Where the hell did you get that BCN style wooden bench from?
We found it in front of a supermarket in Toulouse about ten years ago and stole it. There were ten of those benches, but the way they were arranged you couldn't skate them. So we took Nicolas' car and charged it, just parked right in front, people watching and all… we didn't care, we really wanted it! The thing then stayed at my friend Etienne Baunin's parents garden for a while. Then, when we had Dalavas it was one of the first things we put there to skate.
Who are some of the rippers there?
Nowadays there is lot of new kids. It's really gratifying to see those kids rip our spot! Robin, Romain, Bruno, Leo… and many more little rippers!!
Your favourite obstacle at Dalavas?
It used to be the tits but now they're fucked up. So the small ledge is the thing I skate the most.
»We charged it, just parked right in front, people watching and all… we didn't care, we really wanted it!«
Your favourite Dalavas clip?
Dalavaslibre for sure.
How did the Cold Cash money get put to use?
It helped us out a lot. The spot was fucked from the gypsies that are camping around the place. They stole all the metal and broke some parts of the spot. So with the Cold Cash money we bought new metal edges to fix the ledge. And some cement to re-fix some obstacles.
Best thing about the spot?
You get to skate with skaters! No fucking scooters, no bikes, no blades…
Best Dalavas story:
Ouchhh, so many!! But one thing people need to know is: You don't need to know anything about building a DIY spot to do one! Just do it and you will always end it up with something sick to skate! Like the first ledge we build was a mess: Not straight, not flat, really bad. So we decided to put a bank to it and it ended up being one the funnest spots we built! So just go and start to build kids!!!!!

Unknown fact about Dalavas:
All concrete for the spot was mixed with mineral water and beer!
Dream session there:
Not gonna say any names, but we need the BBQ on, maximum 15 people, 25c beer and water in the cooler and the VX ready to film.
Any plans for new obstacles? What do you think is still missing?
Lots of things are missing. My dream is to put banks all around the spot. Maybe one day…
