Sam Pulley talks CRV WKD

Can you start at the beginning and tell us the origins of CRV WKD?

The Carve was born a few years ago (although it has always existed). Me and the fellas were writing inspirational quotes, that you should live by and are not at all cheesy in any way, on each others boards. Things like ‘Fuck the man’, ‘Fuck fights do weed’… I wrote ‘Carve Wicked’ on Jake’s (Collins) board. That’s when a giant finger came through the roof of the skate shop and touched us all in the mind.

We then started gassing on that Bailey was the Euro Team manager and Chav Dan was on the international team etc etc. I made a few pictures using Microsoft Paint that featured an incorrect description of whatever trick one of the fellas was doing, and the internet said like a few times.

Through chatting loads of shit, between us we came up with some more great life-coaching quotes that help you through day to day life. Did some more MS Paint action based on the passages from the book of the Carve. Then took them to the next level when I took them up Bailey’s crib, he vectorised them, and they were ready to go on shirts. We got one on Danny way at his ‘Waiting for Carving’ premiere, or whatever it was. And that’s when shit kicked off… All the money and bitches in the world!

Everyone said we were daft to build a DIY spot on a swamp, but we built it all the same, just to show them. It sank into the swamp.

Are we going to see a fresh run of CRV WKD t-shirts? Many new ones in the pipeline?

Yes, we’re sitting on around 700,000 potential shirt ideas at the moment. Just in the process of narrowing down to 3, then they will be available absolutely nowhere for your purchasing.

What’s the current state of the CRV WKD DIY? Still standing? The response to Stagecoach you guys made was hilarious.

She’s long gone, has been for a good few months now. Not to worry though, we’ve built several different spots now. Everyone said we were daft to build a DIY spot on a swamp, but we built it all the same, just to show them. It sank into the swamp. So we built a second one. That sank into the swamp. So we built a third. That burned down, fell over, then sank into the swamp. But the fourth one stayed up. And that’s when Stagecoach decided to crush our dreams with their bus quantity expansion program. Not to worry though, we’ll have another CRV training facility assembled in no time.

You recently filmed a Cold Cash for us, is this the first time John’s ramp has been resurfaced since the infamous John Games 2K13 mini-mega ramp session?

Yes we did, and I’d like to thank you guys for such an awesome opportunity. We started fresh and re-built John’s entire ramp using brand spanking new everything… Ended up running out of cash by the time we’d finished the frame. The Cold Cash paper enabaled us to get almost a full surface for the ramp. (We chipped in our pennies for the last few sheets) Tidy wood too. We usually do something every year for John’s birthday AKA JOHN GAMES… John, ‘fatty-fatty bean head’ and myself usually knock something up to skate. Last year we had a hipped mini ramp with an over-vert, and the classic 8 foot John Games quarter. So there have been other skate-able items being surfaced at the John residence, but nothing like the silky smooth new one you helped surface.

How did the Danny Way/Sheckler Instagram photo come about?

This photo came about shortly after we got CRV shirt on Danny in London. Shortly after we gave him a shirt, he put a post out on his own Instagram, throwing the Carve gang sign with his hand and giving us the famous quote, “Carve Wicked is a way of life, not a dull blade but a sharp knife”. Hashtag legend. I’m guessing he told Sheckler about his strange experience in London and the power of the Carve united them, and permanently molded their right hands into the Carve sign. Awesome guys we often go to spoons together.

Ever tried taking a shit in Subway? No chance, they give you evils on the way in and then demand that you buy something or you can’t shit anywhere.

When was the last time you had a poo in ‘Donalds?

Last poo in ‘Donalds was at mini ramp champs in Skeg a few weeks ago. Ever tried taking a shit in Subway? No chance, they give you evils on the way in and then demand that you buy something or you can’t shit anywhere. In ‘Donalds this isn’t an issue. You can stroll in with your head held high, make full eye contact with the staff, and they know… they give you a look that says, ‘Have a great poo in our ‘Donalds fella’. Taken more poos than bought burgers I reckon.

What are your plans for the upcoming year?

I’ve got about 8 weeks of waiting for my knee to fix itself as I fractured it the other day being a dick. After that just Carve Wicked I guess. TIDY
