Pole Dancing | 10 Poppin’ Pole Jams

A few rad pole jams in GIF form...

Pole jams highlight one of the most interesting aspects of skateboarding – the ability of skateboarders to find ways to utilise spaces and the obstacles contained within them. Who else is going to get excited by a pole that has been knocked out of the ground after being hit by a car?

With that in mind we decided to collect together GIFs of some of our favourite examples of the pole jam. As ever, this isn’t meant as an exhaustive list, so feel free to suggest your own favourites.

1. Danny Wainwright

Danny Wainwright, Sidewalk Surfer Issue 6, May 1996.

Vintage Danny Wainwright shapes from the cover of Sidewalk Sufer way back in May 1996.

2. Chewy Cannon

Chewy Cannon handling a steep one switch at Waterloo. Chewy’s no stranger to a pole jam, you can find some nice combos in the Lost Art DC Embassy edit.

Jamie Platt had also had a rad one at the Waterloo spot in his Grey section.

3. Ricky Oyola

Undisputed boss man, Ricky Oyola, bringing the ruckus in Eastern Exposure 3.

4. Tom Penny

Tom Penny bringing the combos to the DC Embassy, check the pop shuv and backside flip variations here.

5. Kevin Rodrigues

Kevin Rodrigues knocking out a stylish back smith pole jam mid-line. For more K-Rod pole jam related antics remind yourself of this dope Alex Pires photo.

6. Anthony Pappalardo

Anthony Pappalardo has a couple of banging pole jams in his Fully Flared section. We opted for the second, his ender, just due to the sheer gnarliness of it.

7. Joe Gavin

Joe Gavin’s Grey video part is peppered with pole jams, both switch and regular, check the lines at 1:37. Too legit!

8. Dallas Rockvam

Frank Skateboards head honcho, Dallas Rockvam, with a couple of rad ones, pole jam bigspin out backed up by one of the front smith pole variety.

9. Jake Johnson

Jake Johnson, the man largely credited with the wallride/pole jam revival, launching one switch in his Static 4 section.

10. Madars Apse

Madars Apse closes this off nicely, taking the pole jam to the next level and into a back smith down a handrail.

Bonus Round: Alexis Lacroix

Absolute pisstake from the master of the ski jump, Alexis Lacroix.
