“Heat was turned up at Saturday’s final of the Nike SB Barcelona AM, the first in the Nike SB European series.
A 15 rider final was broken down into 5 x 3 man heats in front of a packed house on the new Skate Agora plaza, Badalona.
Judged on tricks, flow, consistency and use of the new SLS certified crete, points went to the riders who took chances and charged the park.
Jost Arens’ ollie back lip over the gap was textbook and his frontside noseblunt slide down the 7 step rail helped him to a 3rd place spot on the podium.
Top qualifier from Friday Kilian Zehnder was effortless through a switch front feeble down the rail earning a 2nd.
Kevin Baekkel over from Copenhagen flew. With a standout style and a ton of speed he rode like he was late for something, hitting just about every feature in the park like one man whirlwind. A massive back 3 nose grab over the volcano, boneless to nose blunt on the quarter and an early grab nose grind on the table gives just a hint of why he was awarded 1st place and a cheque for € 3000.
After the super finals, which saw the top 3 battle in their own jam to win an all expenses paid trip to the Nike SB Berlin Open in July (Jost Arens), the flood gates were let open in the form of the best trick session. With 10 minutes of what can only be described as ‘frantic’ skating the top 3 rail and hubba heroes were announced as:
1- Egor Kaldikov – fakie 360 flip back lip
2- Tiago Lopes – fs board flip out
3- Aurelian Gireaud – fs blunt flip out.”
The next stop in the Nike SB European Series is the London AM, BaySixty6 13 – 14th June
