Nike SB’s Dog Shit Spot Jam (Berlin) with Kenny Anderson, Youness Amrani and more.

Nike’s Berlin Open weekend that followed a whole week of Bright related skate-extravaganza, really wanted all bases of skate-terrains to be covered it seems. First the highly technical über-skating on flawless Shelter floors, then to end it all, the rough as fuck, beer bottle shard- and faeces-infested Dog Shit Spot that was only a stone’s throw away from the park. The days before had us skating on roof-top parks, in churches or on abstract metal sculptures – but Dog Shit Spot was as real, down-to-earth – and fun as it gets!

The spot is far from perfect, but that’s also the beauty of it. Inspired by Malmö’s TBS, DSS was built along a path by the train tracks below Wahrschauer Brücke, by Berlin’s skateboarding epicentre. The idea started to shape up when reconstruction of the street up from the path was undergone; plenty of building material to “borrow”…

With no way of knowing for how long the spot would be around first ramps were built hastily at nighttime with no further care for details or perfection. But, as it turned out, no one really seemed to mind. Quite the contrary, local social workers were stoked that someone was actually making use of the otherwise abandoned dead-end space and even announced possible legitimisation for future builds.

Last Sunday however DSS was far from abandoned. The Betonhausen crew had cleaned up the place and added a couple of little features. Thus, the scene was prepared for DIY-machine, Lennie Burmeister to call everyone out for some Wurst & Bier and a casual cash for tricks session to make best use of the time before the big WC final that night that had all of Germany in eager tension.

And yes, they came. Despite rain showers a good 200 people, skaters like Hirschi, Rogge, Oski, Nando, Jugga, and Smiffy, Didrik Galasso, Koffe Hallgren, Kenny Anderson, Ruben Rodriguez, Korahn Gayle and the Danish ripper kids showed up for the good times; dodging each others ways on the narrow path, slashing the lips, charging at the kicker gap, jamming the pole – all in good perfect sunday-sesh-fun.
