European company Antiz manufacture skateboards, skateboard accessories and clothing. Based in Lyon, France, the company was founded in 2002 by Julien Bachelier, Carhartt skaters Hugo Liard and Julian Dykmans (now at RVCA Europe), and photographer Loic Benoit, and it is one of the few independent skateboarder-owned companies left out there.
French rider Liard remains a pro skater for both Carhartt WIP and Antiz, as are Spaniard Julian Furones and Swede Gabriel Engelke. Antiz’s current team roster also features the talent of Bachelier, plus Remy Taveira, Sam Partaix, Samu Karvonen, Michel Mahringer, Dominik Dietrich, Roland Hirsch, Teemu Pirinen, Dallas Rockvam and Peter Molec.
More than a decade of low-budget touring has resulted in some great videos (including a promo from 2008 featuring Steve Forstner, Ben Thé and Tom Derichs and 2012’s amazing X Years anthology) and a well-deserved spot as one of Europe’s most recognisable skateboard companies. To celebrate their tenth birthday in 2012, the Antiz crew including Rockvam, Furones, Liard and Taveira visited Spain, and they left Europe the following year on a mission to Morocco with photographer Alberto Polo.
Antiz have built up a close working relationship with Carhartt WIP since their first collaboration in 2007. In 2013, to celebrate Carhartt WIP’s tenth anniversary, Antiz produced a clothing collection based on the Antiz ‘hobo’ style of travelling designed by renowned artist and graphic designer Veenom. Also in the Antiz range are boards, wheels and trucks, along with tees, hoodies, caps, beanies and underwear.
